Alburne Park was a popular, large modern image layout that, after touring the Scottish exhibition circuit, was sold to Shildon Model Railway Club a number of years ago. The layout prominently featured in the June 2003 edition of British Railway Modelling magazine.
As with our other layouts Alburne Park depicts a fictional Scottish location and named after the district of Glenrothes that is home to our clubrooms. A modern track layout is incorporated in the layout, complete with matching large station building of particularly noteworthy architectural design. Along from the station was a small diesel stabling point and adjacent to that the sidings serving the sizeable complex of Meiklejohn Pumps engineering works.
Behind the station is the equally modern townscape of Alburne Park. Buildings represented include a Fire Station, ‘MacDougals’ Drive-Thru fast food restaurant, ‘The Albion’ hotel (inspired by a building in Birmingham city centre) and the bus station. The bus station is also of particular note as it is an exact model of Glenrothes Bus Station – produced by obtaining a full set of architectural plans for the structure.
