Glenauld (previously Minehaven) – OO Gauge

Minehaven was a large 00 gauge continuous-run layout that we acquired from Cumbernauld Model Railway Club in the spring of 2025. The layout featured a double-track mainline with a station, small harbour and a coal mine. A great deal of work has been undertaken by us since then and in respect of that we decided to rename the layout Glenauld.

The layout is now set in the 1970s era as this is a time period we haven’t covered for yonks and therefore improves the variety of layouts we have. As you can see, Glenauld has been undergoing an extensive scenic revamp along with the construction of a brand new Fiddle Yard.

A new beach cove with rock faces has been constructed with a quaint village square located on the other side of the tracks and linked by scratch-built footbridges. Around the corner the station platforms are lengthened overlooking an extended industrial harbour.

Moving towards the other end of the layout we have a real blast from the nation’s industrial past: a large coal mine incorporating its own narrow gauge railway (009 scale). One of our members is a former pit worker in West Fife so has been a great advisor on the required buildings and their placement.
